Get to Know Green Mandarin Essential Oil

Green mandarin essential oil holds a special place in my heart. As many of you know I'm the aromatherpist and formulator at Be Kekoa Apothecary. When I first got to know Brandie the owner, we were smelling essential oils with another local business owner. When I passed her the bottle of green mandarin it was love at first sniff! She loved it so much I felt like I just had to give her the bottle. And it was the beginning of an awesome adventure.

Green mandarin or Citrus reticulata is pressed from the rind of you guessed it -- green mandarin fruit. The aroma is tart, crisp, and bright, less sweet than red mandarin although both offer similar benefits.

Like other citrus oils green mandarin is rich in limonene and also offers gamma-terpinene, and smaller amounts of other montoterpenes such as b-myrcene and pinenes. 1

Limonene offers numerous benefits. Research supports its role as analgesic, anti-inflammatory, a skin penetration enhancer, antibacterial, and white blood cell activator.

gamma-terpinene offers anti-spasmodic and anti-viral properties. Alpha and Beta pinene also contribute to the analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic, and antibacterial properties of green mandarin. And b-myrcene likewise offers analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. 2

I like using green mandarin in blends to fight germs and support rest. Like orange essential oil, green mandarin is also useful to support the digestive system and ease nausea. It's anti-spasmodic properties can help soothe muscles.

Energetically the oil is said to help move stagnant energy, promote courage, and support those dealing with feelings of anxiety or low mood.

Green mandarin is found in out Be Hydrate Leave in Conditioner and is available as an essential oil, blend, inhaler blend, or roll on.

Below is a blend that works well to support restful sleep and would also be useful as a digestive support blend.

Green Mandarin Soothing Blend:

10 ml roller bottle

Jojoba oil

2 drops of green mandarin (Citrus reticulata)

2 drops lavender (Lavendula angustafolia)

1 drop Roman Chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile)

1 drop cedarwood (Juniperus virginiana)

Add the essential oils to the 10 ml roller bottle. Add jojoba oil to fill the roller bottle. Add the roller and cap and mix gently. Roll onto wrists, back of neck, and chest. Massage into the skin and inhaler deeply to support restful sleep. For digestive support roll onto the belly area and massage to soothe cramps or digestive upset. You can also add these oils to a diffuser or create an inhaler by adjusting the total drops to 18-20 and adding the oils to the cotton wick of an aroma inhaler.
