Surprise Your Valentine with an Aromatherapy Massage Oil

I don't know about you but I love massages. Many people suffer from sore backs, tight muscles, aching feet, tired hands, stiff neck and the like. Using natural carrier oils and essential oils you can create a thoughtful gift that your valentine is sure to love -- especially if it comes with a massage.

There are many types of carrier oils that work well for massage. My personal favorite is jojoba oil (or wax really). It has an incredibly long shelf life and absorbs quickly. Apricot kernel oil, coconut, grapeseed oil, almond oil, and many others are excellent as well.

As far as essential oils go your blend will depend on your intention. Essential oils can be relaxing, anti-spasmodic, support lymph movement/decongestion and the like. And of course you'll want to avoid oils that are phototoxic.

Essential oils I personally love for massage include lavender of course, and Roman chamomile, sandalwood, cedarwood, rosemary, and juniper berry.

Lavender is relaxing, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory in addition to being sedative and a tonic. Roman chamomile is excellent for aches and is also a sedative and anti-spasmodic. Sandalwood helps ease knots and relax muscles and smells wonderful. Cedarwood is relaxing and decongesting. Juniper berry is great at easing muscle aches and moving lymph fluid and rosemary is a fantastic analgesic and offer adrenal support.

One of my favorite massage blends is a combination of Roman chamomile, lavender, and sandalwood in a base of jojoba. It helps ease muscle aches and relax tight muscles.

How much essential oil to add? For everyday use 10-12 drops per ounce is a great dilution. For acute issues 15-18 drops per ounce is a great place to start.

I've found that adding essential oils to massage can help ease muscle aches, reduce knots, and help make massage more effective. And I don't know about you but massage makes so many things feel better. It eases back pain, helps tired muscles, soothes sore necks, and tired feet and hands. Massage blends and massages are loving, thoughtful gifts.
