Hand washing is the number one way to stop the spread of germs. Essential oils can easily be added to offer additional antimicrobial benefits and other benefits.

Foaming soap is economical and fun for kids to make and use. Essential oils are added to liquid soap and it is diluted and used to fill a foaming soap pump. Easy peasy!

Try the recipe below for an easy way to create a refill your foaming soap pumps. The aloe and glycerin support the skin but are optional.

Ingredients for 8 oz of foaming soap refill:

2 oz (60 ml) Castille or liquid soap

6 oz (180 ml) distilled water

40 - 80 drops of Citrus paradisi (grapefruit) essential oil or other skin safe essential oil or blend.

1 tsp. (5 ml) aloe vera gel (optional)

1/4 - 1 tsp. (1.25 - 5 ml) glycerin (optional)

glass measuring cup or beaker

spoon or stirring rod

isopropyl alcohol for sanitizing

Use isopropyl alcohol to sanitize measuring cup or beaker and spoon or stir rod. Add essential oils to soap base and stir to combine. Add water, aloe, and glycerin (if using). Stir gently to combine without making an excess of bubbles. Pour mixture into the foaming soap pump.
