How to Create a Diffuser Blend

Diffusing essential oils is one of the easiest and safest ways to enjoy aromatherapy. A diffuser sends essential oils into the air allowing you to enjoy their therapeutic benefits while also making the space smell amazing.

Essential oils are derived from plant parts such as fruit, rinds, seeds, bark, leaves, roots, and resins so they are a completely natural way to add fragrance to your home.

Essential oils also offer many benefits when diffused. For example they can be used to:

* Purify the air of unwanted germs

* Support the immune system

* Support relaxation or sleep

* Uplift and boost the mood

* Help open up the airways

* Support focus or meditation

When essential oils are breathed in they work their way through the nose, into the respiratory system, and then into the blood stream. Along the way they can affect the mood, the nervous system, and other body systems very quickly.

You can create your own diffuser blend by simply adding a combination of essential oils directly to your diffuser. Once you find combinations you love you can use the ratio to create a stock blend if desired.

By creating a diffuser blend you can enjoy the benefits and aromas of several essential oils at once.

How to create a blend

Essential oil blends can be created either with a therapeutic intent in mind or based on aroma. When creating a diffuser blend also be sure to understand the safety considerations of each essential oil.

Check the essential oil safety information for each oil you are considering. When diffusing around children be sure to use child safe essential oils. And when diffusing around pets make sure they can leave the room and take themselves to an oil free area if they wish.

Choose two to five essential oils for your blend, add water to your diffuser to the recommended amount, and add five to fifteen drops total of essential oil depending on the size of the room.

Creating diffuser blends is a fun way to enjoy the benefits of essential oils.

Some tips when creating blends

Begin with intention. Do you want to fight germs, support immune health, boost mood or focus, support relaxation/sleep, or just make the room smell wonderful?

If you are blending with therapeutic intent in mind choose a few oils that offer the benefits you are looking for. If aroma is important you can try combining a top, middle, and base note.

Top notes are light and are the first ones you smells, while base notes are deep, rich aromas that linger. Middle notes are somewhere in between. A balanced blend can be very pleasing. Or you can choose several top notes to create a lively, light blend or several base notes to create a sensual, rich blend.

When deciding which oils to use you can try holding the caps of essential oils together to see how they smell together.

Be sure to write down your blend ratio so you can duplicate or create a stock blend if you like the blend you've created.
