One of my favorite essential oils to add to salves and creams for aches is Balsam copaiba (Copaifera officinalis).
This essential oil is rich in β-Caryophyllene. Research suggests that this aromatic compound is analgesic (pain relieving) (1, 2) , anti-inflammatory (2,3), neuroprotective (1,4), and antispasmodic (5) or relaxing. In addition Balsam copaiba appears to thwart germs(6,7), support the immune and cardiovascular system (8,9).
So how to use? In general a low dilution is used for kids, elderly, and for skin care. A 2% dilution is great for massage, everyday use, or when more fragrance is desired. A dilution of 3% and beyond is used for aches and therapeutic issues.
What does dilution mean? Well there are 500 to 600 drops per ounce of oil so they say and 5 to 6 drops of essential oils per ounce will make a 1% dilution of the essential oils. (5/500=1%) and 10 drops per ounce is a 2% dilution (10/500) got it? If not feel free to contact me and ask.
So a 3% dilution means 15-18 drops per ounce. And if you are looking to soothe aches Balsam copaiba is an excellent choice. And a simple recipe to help is:
One once glass jar (or larger)
One ounce carrier oil (jojoba, fractionated coconut oil, etc.)
15 drops Balsam copaiba (Copaifera officinalis)
3 drops lavender (Lavendula angustafolia)
Add carrier oil to jar, add essential oils and combine gently to mix. Massage onto areas that ache.
Balsam copaiba is an amazing effective essential oil and can be so very effective to ease joint and muscle aches.
It is even more effective when combine with CBD and other herbal infusions. If you are looking for ways to ease aches, soothe stress, or just feel better feel free to contact me or search my blog for ideas or suggest ideas for future blog posts.
Aromatic blessings and may you enjoy the richness and beauty of life.
