Beautiful, Tasty, and Medicinal. Herbal Teas and Decoctions for Health.

June 21, 2018

In a recent post I mentioned that I employ a creative or perhaps inclusive approach to using plant based products and holistic approaches to support health and wellness. Yes I did call it the "Bruce Lee" approach. :) .

As a certified aromatherapist I've studied how to utilize essential oils to support health and wellness but I have a desire to also include other modalities. For a recent client I not only wanted to formulate topical aromatherapy products but also include an herbal blend to further support the body.

My client wanted a topical product to address a skin issue. Often skin issues also benefit by addressing the body on an internal or organ level, with good sleep, adequate water intake, and good diet.  Herbal teas or decoctions are a good way to further support the body and can be an easy, tasty way to help take in more water and support cleansing.

Often for skin support burdock and dandelion work well to cleanse the body, support the liver, and help support skin health. The herbal tea/decoction I created recently offered both burdock and dandelion to cleanse and support the liver, hibiscus for taste, vitamin C, and skin support, lemon balm for taste, nervous system support, and immune support, elderberry for taste and immune system support, plus burdock root, and dandelion root and leaf to support liver and skin.

It is rather simple to add a few tablespoons of herbs and cover with hot water, steep, and drink hot or cold, but the benefits over the course of time can be great. Herbs along with essential oils and other plant based helps can support the body and overall health and wellness.

If you have questions about aromatherapy, essential oils, herbs, or plant based wellness feel free to contact Tricia. I can't promise I know it all, but I continue educate myself, take classes, and work to give my clients my best. I plan to continue on the path of holistic health care practitioner in the fall and will attend Botanica 2018 Clinical aromatherapy conference in August.

Aromatic blessings,

Tricia
