Skin, Scar, and Muscle Soothing Plus Decongesting Myrrh Essential Oil Has Much to Offer.

Myrrh is mentioned as a gift from the wise men to baby Jesus. It was treasured thousands of years ago and the essential oil and resin is still treasured by many today.

Myrrh essential oil is distilled from the resin of Commiphora myrrha. Like frankincense essential oil it has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, cell-regenerative, mucolytic, warming, and skin healing properties.

It's aroma is resinous and spicy base note and it can have a medicinal quality. It's a thicker oil and as it ages it often becomes softer and more mellow. Myrrh is rich in sesquiterpenes which tend to be calming, antispasmodic, and inflammation soothing. Furanoeudsmadiene and curzerene are typically the most abundant.

Myrrh is very useful for muscle soothing, skin health, and respiratory health blends. Energetically myrrh calms the mind and brings inner stillness and a sense of peace. It is useful for meditation or bible study to bring a sense of tranquility and calm.

I recently made an inhaler for a client with bergamot, myrrh, frankincense and elemi essential oils for relaxation, clarity and calm for use during a hectic day. I was reminded how beautiful myrrh was. And it is excellent in an inhaler for calming the mind and soothing emotions.

Another client asked me to create a scar butter and myrrh will be a great choice to add to such a blend. I plan on creating a scar butter with avocado, baobab, and jojoba oil along with shea butter which are all very skin healing along with frankincense, myrrh, and helichrysum.

In addition to its benefits to skin and spirit myrrh is also decongesting and mucolytic in nature making it an excellent choice for respiratory blends. The same calming inhaler I made above does double duty as to help calm a cough or soothe the airways during a cold. A chest rub that included eucalyptus, myrrh, frankincense, orange, and tea tree would be gentle, effective immune support and relief for congestion and cold.

For the musculoskeletal system myrrh offer relief from aches and inflammation. It blends well with juniper berry, frankincense, clove bud, elemi, lemon, lavender, or black pepper in muscle soothing blends. Try adding it to a massage or or unscented cream to create a blend for achey joints or muscles. It will bring welcome relief and a sense of calm.
