How to Use Orange Essential Oil

October 3, 2017

I've never met anyone who doesn't like orange (Citrus sinensis) essential oil.  Orange essential oil is cold pressed from the rind of oranges rather than being distilled. It's aroma is bright and fresh like a sunshiny day. Orange essential oil is a top note and is uplifting, optimistic, inspiring, and comforting.

Orange EO is rich in d-limonene. Its benefits include digestive support, immune support, support for sore muscles, and for cleaning. Many citrus oils are phototoxic but sweet orange is not. Wild orange can be so be sure to check bottle for precautions.

Orange essential oil is said to unlock stagnant energy and calm an overwhelmed mind. Research and anecdotal evidence support its use as an analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-depressant, anti-viral, digestive aid, immnostimulant, liver protectant, and sedative. Orange EO has demonstrated a wide range of actions that can strengthen and restore vitality.

Here are a few ideas for blending with orange essential oil:

Focus inhaler:

5-7 drops sweet orange

5-7 drops peppermint.

Add oils to cotton wick (preferably organic) of a disposable or reusable inhaler. Seal and use as needed. Inhalers are great for study time, school, work, or sports. This inhaler could also be useful to combat nausea.

Belly Rub/ Cramp Cream:

1-2 oz glass or PET plastic jar

1 oz of unscented lotion  (30ml or 2 Tbs)

3-5 drops of orange

3-5 drop of Roman chamomile

3-5 drops Sandalwood

1 drop Bergamot (Caution this is a phototoxic oil -- do not add more than one drop or use only on areas not exposed to sunlight).

Mix essential oils into cream/lotion. Apply to belly or lower back as needed or every few hours.
